Prodege, the parent company of online rewards site Swagbucks, announced it will acquire digital consumer polling platform SodaHead.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
SodaHead’s team of 10 will relocate from Sherman Oaks to Swagbuck’s El Segundo headquarters, which houses 110 of the rewards program’s employees. SodaHead and its site will continue to operate independently.
Swagbucks users earn gifts cards and reward points by using its search function, playing games or filling long-form surveys. The company has dished out more than $68 million in rewards since its 2008 launch.
Founder and President Josef Gorowitz said SodaHead’s real-time polling technology will help enhance Swagbucks’ Answers channel, which offers short polls that pose one question to users.
“It’s our first acquisition, the synergies are great and we’re definitely looking for more opportunities.” Gorowitz said.
Swagbucks raised $60 million in May from Technology Crossover Ventures and brought on Chuck Davis, formerly of Fandango, as its chief executive. The SodaHead deal marks the beginning of Davis’ push to advance Swagbucks in the market research business.
