The L.A. Galaxy might be the two-time defending champions in Major League Soccer, but the team is still at work giving their fans something even more to cheer about.
The soccer club, in collaboration with AEG Global Partnerships and Chevrolet, has just unveiled a “social hub” that gives fans a one-stop shop for all the social media chatter about the team.
The hub is essentially a mobile site viewable on Android and Apple iOS devices that aggregates all Galaxy talk around the social Web – anything on Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and other outlets that touches on the team gets brought into a single space.
This platform is the first of its kind for professional soccer, according to representatives of the team. And given the type of person who makes up the sport’s fans, it could be a particularly good fit.
“Soccer fans are the youngest and most tech savvy, and as a result they’re the most inclined to share content through the platform,” said Scott Carlis, vice president of digital and social media at AEG. “Being in that millennial group, they want to have that second screen with an immersive experience.”
The site also promises some exclusive content and right now is even holding an online competition for fans. The contest? Name the Galaxy’s new social media platform.
