Department of Justice Sues Over Net Neutrality
California’s new net neutrality laws signed by Governor Jerry Brown Sept. 30 are already facing swift rebuke from the U.S. Justice Department. According to ArsTechnica, a complaint filed by the Trump Administration in Sacramento federal court claims the new California legislation is an attempt to thwart Federal Communications Commission laws finalized in 2015 de-regulating the internet.
Amazon Studios Promotes Rapaport
Julie Rapaport is now co-head of Amazon.com Inc.’s Amazon Studios movie team, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Rapaport, hired Sept. 26, will manage releases of high-budget films. Rapaport joined the Santa Monica-based Amazon Studios post after working with the Weinstein Co. as senior vice president of production and development.
Santa Monica private coastal air travel outfit Surf Airlines Inc. will now allow users to book flights as far as 90 days in advance, Socaltech reports. Now, the company offers 45 weekly flights between San Francisco and LA; 40 weekly flights between San Francisco and Santa Barbara; and 20 flights between San Francisco and Truckee. Surf Air, which is membership-based; also offers an “all you can fly” option starting at $1,950 monthly.
