Jam City finds “Harry Potter” game lucrative; Cluster gains $1.9 million; Boring Co. approved for Vegas people mover
Musk’s Hyperloop Makes Progress in Vegas
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority approved a new people mover project led by Elon Musk’s Boring Co., the Verge reports. The Boring co. had been chosen by the Authority March 6, according to the Business Journal, but was awaiting official approval. The project would consist of a network of underground tunnels ferrying passengers on high-speed electric vehicles around the various areas of the Las Vegas Convention Center, which will encompass 200 acres at its 2021 completion.
Recruitment firm Cluster Inc. raised nearly $2 million March 13 to expand its team and online recruitment platform offerings, the Business Journal reports. Cluster, based in Culver City, was incorporated last year by Kim Taylor and features backing from billionaire Mark Cuban. The funding round was led by Minneapolis-headquartered career education nonprofit ECMC Group.
Jam City Gains $110 Million From “Harry Potter” Mobile Game
According to new data from market analyst Sensor Tower, Culver City-based mobile game developer Jam City Inc.’s “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery” iOS and Android game has made roughly $110 million since its launch last April. The Verge reports the “Hogwarts Mystery” title is the first mobile game based on the “Harry Potter” fantasy franchise and is free to play – Jam City gains revenue from in-game purchases. 48 percent of the game’s earnings came from the United States.
