Garcetti Launches Digital Makers Initiative
Mayor Eric Garcetti announced on Friday that he has launched the Digital Makers Initiative, a first of its kind pilot program that will help ensure that film making remains and thrives in Los Angeles, the Business Journal reports. The initiative will cut two-thirds of film-permitting costs for small and digital-first productions and cuts red tape for small, low-impact productions.
LACMA Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Egg-Shaped Museum
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has launched a Kickstart campaign to raise $75,000 to drive a tiny egg-shaped museum from Guatemala City to LACMA, with stops along the way, The New York Times reports. The crowdfunding campaign aims to fund the unconventional journey of a reproduction of the Nuevo Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, a roughly 8-foot-by-6-foot gallery space that fits four people and was once a drive-through kiosk that sold eggs. If all goes as planned and the project is fully funded by 12:55 on July 7, the model will be part of the museum’s exhibition, “A Universal History of Infamy,” opening Aug. 20, and will be part of the Getty Foundation-sponsored “Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA” exhibit.
