Maersk Halts Operations at Port of Los Angeles After Cyberattack

Shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk shut down its operations at the Port of Los Angeles’ largest terminal Tuesday morning after a cyberattack hobbled its computer systems worldwide, reports the Business Journal. The closure happened around 6 a.m. at APM Terminals at Pier 400, where Maersk’s operations in Southern California are based, said port spokesman Phillip Sanfield. Maersk is the primary shipper at the terminal and is the port’s largest shipping company by cargo volume, he said.

Belkin Starts Selling Backpacks and Messenger Bags

Electronics accessories maker Belkin announced on Tuesday the sale of backpacks and messenger bags designed to tote laptops and other electronics, according to a press release. The bags are a slight departure from Belkin’s core business which focuses on electronics.

Snap Pitches Advertisers on Advantages of Snapchat’s Smaller Audience

Snap Inc. executives urged advertisers to focus on the creativity and functionality of Snapchat that delight its users, instead of audience size, at the Cannes Lions advertising conference, reports DigiDay. The company’s pitch “was more about audiences, who they are, what they are doing and how to target them,” according to one agency executive who met with the company.
