WarnerMedia Enters Streaming Market

The Business Journal reports AT&T Inc.-owned WarnerMedia announced today the launch of its new digital streaming service, HBO Max. The service will launch in March 2020 and contain at least 10,000 hours of content, including “Friends,” which Netflix will soon relinquish the rights to.

Netflix Expands Chinese Content Offerings

Streaming firm Netflix Inc., which has significant Hollywood operations, is expanding its lineup of Chinese-language programming. According to Variety, the company will add several new titles to its existing lineup of Chinese-language content, and its first original series in Chinese will debut in the coming months. While Netflix is not allowed to operate its platform in China, it still retains a large base of Chinese-speaking viewers.

Data Breach at Department of Health Services

Roughly 15,000 Los Angeles County Department of Health Services patients had their personal data exposed in a March 28 hack, the L.A. Daily News reports today. The hack came after a contractor’s email was compromised, turning over information including patients’ first and last names, addresses, phone numbers, medical record numbers, Medi-Cal identification numbers and other sensitive data. The Department of Health Services reports there is “no evidence patient information has been misused” so far.
