Tinder settles $11.5 million class action, TaskUs hits 15,000 employees; March Capital raises $300 million fund
Tinder Settles Pricing Lawsuit
West Hollywood-headquartered Tinder Inc., (owned by Match Group Inc.) settled a $17.3 million class action lawsuit in a California Central District court last week, the Verge reports. The suit was brought by plaintiff Lisa Kim and alleges that Tinder charged users age 30 and over twice its typical fee for its subscription service Tinder Plus. Kim and the estimated other 230,000 members she filed on behalf of are now due a combined $11.5 million settlement. In exchange for dropping their claims, class members will receive either a $25 check, a free Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold account, and several “super likes,” a way to note in the app you’re extra-interested in a dating prospect.
$300 Million Fund II Raised by March Capital
The Business Journal reports Santa Monica venture capital outfit March Capital Partners closed on its second raise of $300 million. Fund II expands March Capital’s first $240 million fund. In addition to the raise, March Capital named two new partners: Merideth Finn, formerly at Salesforce Ventures, and Jed Leidheiser, promoted from his previous role as vice president at March Capital.
Santa Monica-headquartered staff outsourcing provider TaskUs announced Jan. 24 it hit 15,000 employees across 18 global offices. Socaltech reports Chief Executive Bryce Maddock said in a statement 2018 was the company’s best year on record and noted the firm has an over $500 million valuation, with support from private equity investor Blackstone Capital.
