Preliminary Permit Granted for N.Y. to DC Hyperloop Plan

Boring Co. has received an early, and vague, building permit from the D.C. government that will allow some preparatory and excavation work at a fenced-off parking lot, the Washington Post reports. Asked about the permit, issued Nov. 29, a Boring Company spokesman said Friday that “a New York Avenue location, if constructed, could become a station” in a broad network of such stops across the new Hyperloop system, which will stretch between New York and DC with stops in Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Air Force and Aerojet Rocketdyne Renegotiating AR1 Development Agreement

The U.S. Air Force and Aerojet Rocketdyne are working to revise an agreement to support development of the company’s AR1 rocket engine, as questions continue about the engine’s long-term future, SpaceNews reports. Aerojet Rocketdyne has approached the Air Force about reducing the industry cost share on the AR1 from 1/3 to 1/6, said the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center.

IdeaLab’s 3-D printer startup New Matter will shut down its operations on Feb. 28 due to poor prospects of becoming profitable, according to an announcement on the company’s website. The company plans to keep open its online store through mid-2018.
