Ziff Davis to Close Mashable Acquisition for $50 Million and Lay off 50 People
Ziff Davis, a digital media subsidiary of tech company J2 Global, is buying Mashable for less than $50 million, Recode reports. The new owners plan to lay off about 50 of the site’s employees and are offering other Mashable employees jobs at other Ziff Davis publications, according to a source familiar with the company’s plans, who says founder Pete Cashmore will stay with the company.
Relativity Space Aims to 3-D Print Entire Launch Vehicles
Relativity Space plans to use 3-D printing to produce entire launch vehicles, an approach it claims can be more cost effective than traditional manufacturing techniques, SpaceNews reports. By manufacturing a rocket with 3-D printing, vehicles can be built faster and less expensively because far less human labor is needed, the company believes. It also allows the company to revise vehicle designs quickly, without sunk costs in tooling tied to certain designs.
