Santa Monica-based TrueCar Inc. acquired Boston-headquartered software developer DealerScience for $27 million on Dec. 9. Socaltech reports DealerScience’s headquarters will remain in Boston where it will continue to make auto showroom and vehicle management software. As part of the transaction, DealerScience founder Andrew Gordon will join TrueCar as its vice president of digital retailing.

RealD Signs 100 Screen Deal

The Business Journal reports Beverly Hills-based 3D film screen manufacturer RealD Inc. signed a deal with Beijing, China-based Wanda Cinema Line Corp. to install 3D screens into 100 of its theaters across China. Four of the proposed 100 screens will be installed in four Wanda Cinema-owned theaters in Beijing by March 2019.

Katzenberg Plans Massive Qubi Spend

Jeffrey Katzenberg’s new short-form mobile streaming service, dubbed Quibi, plans to spend nearly $500 million to buy content before its launch, slated for the end of 2019. Digiday reports Quibi has raised $1 billion and aims to spend most of it on programming by 2025. For consumers, subscriptions for Quibi will cost $5 monthly or $8 per month without ads.
