GoGuardian Taps Microsoft Exec as CFO

Former Microsoft Corp. executive Mike Jonas has joined El Segundo-based education technology startup GoGuardian as its chief financial officer. The Business Journal reports Jonas joins GoGuardian following a stint as chief financial officer for Seattle-based online used bookseller Thriftbooks and 14 years at Microsoft, where he most recently served as senior director of finance and business operations.

Sinemia Sued, Faces User Backlash

Fairfax-based online movie ticket subscription platform Sinemia Inc. was sued in February, TechCrunch reported. Pennsylvania law firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith filed a class action suit alleging Sinemia “fleeces” customers with undisclosed processing fees, a practice that’s provoked more than 2,000 complaints from “current or former” subscribers.

Critical Role Raises $9M for ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ Content

Burbank-based Critical Role feeds the frenzy for role-playing game “Dungeons and Dragons” with podcasts, live-streamed games and a blog. The next plan is to create an animated special and to fund it, Critical Role started a Kickstarter campaign with plans to raise $750,000 by April 18, BuiltInLA reports. Fans have already blown past the crowdfunding goal and the company has raised $9.1 million to date.
