Metro: The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has launched underground wireless service for Verizon Wireless customers on the Metro Red and Purple lines in downtown Los Angeles. Verizon customers with 4G LTE devices will have access to HD Voice and data services on the trains.

Flying Yak: Zuma Ventures of Santa Monica has launched the Flying Yak app. The travel app helps users discover places to travel, connects fellow tourists, and allows users to share pictures.

Airmule: Playa Vista’s Airmule has launched its international courier service. The online service pays airline passengers to haul goods in their luggage on behalf of others.

HelloTech: In-home technical support company HelloTech of West L.A. has launched in San Diego. The company’s workforce is comprised of college students working on a contract basis, and also operates in Los Angeles, Orange County, Long Beach.

Smashd Labs: Culver City accelerator Smashd Labs is accepting applications for its second class of companies until June 5. The accelerator will run from Sept. 6 to Nov. 18. It provides participating companies with a $50,000 convertible note, office space, and mentorship in exchange for a 3 percent equity stake.
