Shotgun Software has agreed to be acquired by Autodesk as both companies look to increase product development and management for entertainment production.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of Shotgun will accelerate Autodesk’s efforts to deliver solutions that help our creative customers solve the critical problem of operating more efficiently by collaborating globally to deliver increasingly complex productions on time and budget,” said Chris Bradshaw, senior vice president of Autodesk Media and Entertainment.
Founded in 2006, Shotgun creates cloud-based production-management software for visual production and effects, connecting users within the global media and entertainment industry. Autodesk produces entertainment production staples, including apps Maya, SoftImage and MotionBuilders, as part of its entertainment creation suite. The partnership is intended to speed up Shotgun’s development of its products.
Shotgun will operate as a separate entity within the software giant’s media and entertainment division, but operations will be consolidated. Both companies are housed in Venice.
The acquisition is set to close by the end of July.
