SGN and Fox Launch ‘Book of Life’ Game

Social Gaming Network and Fox Digital Entertainment have partnered to simultaneously launch a gaming experience with the studio’s upcoming animated film “Book of Life.”

The mobile game, “Book of Life: Sugar Smash,” is SGN’s first collaboration with a major Hollywood studio. It isn’t a secondary window to the film though, said SGN President and Chief Operating Officer Josh Yguado.

“The game will benefit from the success of the film and vice versa,” Yguado said. “There are many ways to build a franchise, build a world and have people enjoy it, be it at the theater, home, work or wherever they have access to a device or a screen.”

The Match-3 game is free to download but features in-app purchases such as special power-ups or extra time. Royalties will be shared by SGN and Fox, though Yguado declined to share the exact cut.

Yguado, who worked at Fox Networks Group before co-founding the Beverly Hills gaming studio, said SGN has tripled in size, revenue and its user base in just the last year. SGN currently has 20 million monthly active users, 80 percent of whom come through its games Cookie Jam and Panda Pop.
