Federal Appeals Court Upholds Net-Neutrality
The U.S Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Tuesday upheld the government’s net-neutrality rules that compel internet service providers to treat all web traffic equally, reports the Los Angeles Daily News. The 2-1 ruling represents a victory for consumers who rely on broadband service as a public utility, meaning internet service providers cannot offer better service to sites that pay extra. AT&T, who last year acquired El Segundo based provider DIRECTV, has issued statements on its website saying it will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.
Loot Crate Receives $18.5 Million in Funding
Los Angeles based e-commerce subscription company, Loot Crate has secured $18.5 million is Series A funding, reports Tech.co. The company sends subscribers themed boxes full of accessories and apparel based on pop culture and video game brands. According to a company statement, since its 2012 launch Loot crate has grown its revenues to more than $100 million annually.
Electronic Arts Inc. Breaks into E-Sports Market
Two days before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) hit Los Angeles, video game publisher Electronic Arts announced its plans to award $1 million to top “Madden NFL 17” players over the next year, reports the Los Angeles Times. The prize money is meant to advertise for EA’s upcoming four-tournament series that will mark the company’s first foray into e-sports this fall.
