Software giant Microsoft is upping its game in Los Angeles with the opening of an office in Playa Vista.

The Business Journal first reported in February that the Redmond, Wash., company planned to sign a lease at Playa Vista’s Reserve, the site of a former U.S. Post Office facility. After nearly seven months, Microsoft has finally moved in.

The company held a grand opening event at the property Thursday morning that included visits from Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilman Mike Bonin.

The site will serve as hub for Microsoft’s L.A. enterprise sales team, which works with clients such as Walt Disney Co. and Sony Corp. Much of the building is designed to showcase Microsoft’s technology and train customers on how to use its software.

The office also has room for Microsoft’s 130 local employees, which stretch across divisions such as sales, marketing and advertising.

Mark Kornegay, Microsoft’s general manager for Southern California, said the new office signifies the company’s increased commitment to Los Angeles.

“L.A. is becoming more of a tech centric city,” he told the Business Journal. “It’s being recognized as a more entrepreneurial hub. We’ve seen even more companies move here and the talent is here.”

Previously, Microsoft operated out of an office building in downtown Los Angeles. The company also has space in Santa Monica for its entertainment division, which includes creating original content for the Xbox game system.
