The L.A. tech community will have a significant presence at this year’s South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
A concentration of local companies can be found at the Silicon Beach Sunday Funday, a day-long event showcasing 20 tech firms. The event isn’t part of the official SXSW, but it will still be the biggest gathering of L.A. tech companies during the five-day interactive portion of the conference.
Many other Silicon Beach startups and executives will be on hand during the weekend giving presentations or pitching their companies. The Business Journal has put together a list of some events with L.A. tech participants.*
Eighteenth Over Austin
March 8 – March 11
TechZulu, an L.A. news startups focused on live web TV, is live streaming interviews and panels throughout the interactive conference. PromoJam, a Venice startup helping companies launch social promotions, is a sponsor.
GonnaBe
The Santa Monica startup, which has an app to help with planning and coordinating social events among friends, is updating its app to include SXSW parties that aren’t found on the official conference schedule. The app shows a map of the evening events and allows people to RSVP for them while on the go.
Adly
The Westwood online marketing company, which brokers deals for celebrities to tweet about brands, is hosting a contest for startups at SXSW. Companies that want to participate must tweet Adly their pitch and dream celebrity endorsement. The winner receives a free promotional tweet from a celebrity.

“Blood, Sweat, and Online Videos: How to Achieve the Digital Dream”

Executives from West Hollywood online video network Machinima will discuss the ups and downs of the YouTube content creation ecosystem.

The Marina del Rey company, which uses crowdsourcing to help big brands produce low-budget commercials and marketing campaigns, is hosting a barbecue and concert for its contributors and supporters. The event will also feature live bands.

The chief executive of SpaceX in Hawthorne and Tesla in Palo Alto is the keynote speaker for this year’s SXSW conference.
Michael Pachter’s Gaming State of the Union

Michael Pachter, a video game analyst for Wedbush Securities in downtown Los Angeles, is giving his look at the state of the gaming industry. His speech includes a look at mobile and social games and the next generation of consoles.
