The L.A. Cleantech Incubator and Clean Tech Los Angeles will likely forgive you if you thought they were part of the same organization.
With shared board members and a similar vision for promoting the Los Angeles clean tech industry, the organizations have a lot in common. So it’s no surprise that they announced Tuesday that they are merging into one entity.
The CTLA Board of Directors has joined the LACI to form a joint leadership council that will develop a plan for how best to merge the two groups.
Previously they acted as sister organizations with roots in Mayor Antonio Villariagosa’s plan to bolster clean tech in L.A.
CTLA focuses on promoting and advocating for clean tech initiatives in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, LACI helps grow companies with clean tech missions. The incubator will be moving into a new space at the La Kretz Innovation Campus in downtown’s designated Clean Tech Corridor this summer.
“We shared board members, which was both good and bad,” said Fred Walti, executive director of the LACI, who will head the merged organization until a plan is formalized. “There was a lot of confusion about the difference. Bringing these two organizations together and being very clear about the two missions will create less confusion and hopefully be more effective.”
