Karlin Starts Office Hours

Startups that go through accelerator programs have instant access to guidance and venture capital. But what about those companies that choose to go it alone?

Karlin Ventures has set up office hours to give support and feedback to startups looking for a little free assistance.

The Santa Monica venture capital firm, which began investing last year, will hold the meetings twice a month at ROC, which stands for Real Office Centers, in Santa Monica.

TX Zhuo, managing partner of Karlin Ventures, said he hopes that other VCs and entrepreneurs will join in mentoring the startups.

“A lot of VCs only help the companies that they invest in,” he said. “But I’m doing this to help the community.”

Venture Capital firms and angel investing groups will occasionally host mixers or attend events to network with entrepreneurs, but Zhuo said he hasn’t seen L.A. investors devote significant time to mentoring startups outside of the accelerator programs.
