Turns out college students aren’t the only ones looking for cheap sleeping digs.
That’s why Hovelstay, which offers listings for eclectic lodging, is no longer exclusive to college students with an “.edu” email address.
“We really got slammed with emails from baby boomers and the like, asking us to open it up,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Michael Bolger in a statement. “It seemed uncool to exclude anyone from having an interesting travel experience so here we are.”
Hovelstay launched this year to help budget travelers find low-priced accommodations. On the other side, “hovel hosts” can make an extra buck by renting out anything from a hammock to their entire house. The Glendale startup announced it will open offices in London to begin expanding into European and Asian markets.
Hovelstay in August raised $1.2 million in Series A funding from private investors.
