In a move that greatly expands its service area, in-home tech-support company HelloTech has merged with rival Geekatoo of San Francisco. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The merger will add Geekatoo’s 7,000 independently contracted IT technicians in all 50 states to HelloTech’s team of about 150 technicians in Southern California. The company will also gain technical support expertise in video game system setup and small business IT support.

Richard Wolpert, chief executive of HelloTech, will lead the combined company and Geekatoo’s founding team will move to the firm’s West L.A. headquarters.

The merger will help prepare the combined company for an expected surge in demand for in-home tech support coming over the next several years, said Wolpert.

“We are looking to partner with internet-of-things companies that could benefit with a nationwide network of (technicians),” he said.

The deal was motivated by $17 million raised by HelloTech while Geekatoo had just raised $2.2 million in seed funding.
