GrubHub Swallows LAbite

Online food delivery company LAbite is set to be acquired by GrubHub Inc. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

LAbite was one the few regional food delivery companies left in Los Angeles, as national players such as GrubHub, UberEats, and Amazon Fresh have crowded into the market and gobbled up rivals. Chicago’s GrubHub, which raised $192 million in its 2014 initial public offering, last year acquired LAbite competitor Restaurants on the Run and DiningIn of Brighton, Mass., for a reported $80 million combined.

Despite increasing competition from national players, Culver City-based LAbite said it processed $80 million in orders last year, up from $40 million in 2014. The company also took out its first small-business loan last year for $3.5 million to acquire Eat Out In of Austin, Texas, and Waiters on Wheels in San Francisco.

LAbite President Ken Fisher declined comment because the deal is not yet closed.
