Google is waiting in the hangars for a piece of L.A real estate, according to a Wall Street Journal report that says the company wants to expand its corporate offices in Los Angeles.
The tech giant is said to be in early talks of leasing more than 300,000 square feet of the Hughes Aircraft hangar, which boasts seven-story ceilings and was where the giant “Spruce Goose” airplane was built. Located north of Los Angeles International airport, the hangar is part of Playa Vista’s larger Hercules Campus, which also houses a 41,000-square-foot studio for Google-owned YouTube.
A representative from Google declined to comment.
The Ratkovich Co., which purchased the 28-acre campus for $32.4 million in 2010, said in an email, “Hercules Campus at Playa Vista remains an attractive option for non-traditional companies known for their leadership in the fields of media, entertainment and technology. We appreciate the interest in our property; however, we do not comment on rumors or speculation about potential tenants.”
Google’s L.A. operations are currently housed in a 100,000-square-foot complex in Venice. The company moved there from Santa Monica in 2011.
