Google Fiber Looking at Expanding to Los Angeles

Alphabet Inc. announced in a blog post that it is looking at expanding its high-speed Internet network Google Fiber to Los Angeles.

The company said it is working with city leaders to better understand the region’s needs as well as factors that would affect construction, such as city infrastructure and topography.

Initially, Alphabet has avoided expanding Google Fiber to large cities, instead focusing on less competitive secondary markets, such as Kansas City and Salt Lake City. That strategy appears to be changing as the company broke ground on a high-speed Internet project in Atlanta in June and is now eyeing Los Angeles and Chicago.

The prospect of Google Fiber expansion also comes after AT&T Inc. announced plans on Monday to expand its high-speed Internet to Los Angeles.
