Fuhu Inc., maker of the child-friendly Nabi tablet computer, has expanded into content production.
The El Segundo company co-produced “Albert & Junior,” based on characters created for the Nabi Jr. tablet, with BabyFirstTV. The show debuts today on the BabyFirst Network, carried by DirectTV, Comcast, Dish Network and AT&T U-Verse.
The series has 24 five-minute episodes and will be played four times a day for the next year on the BabyFirst network, headquartered in Santa Monica.
“We are delighted to help them expand their brand into an educational and entertaining original show,” BabyFirst Chief Executive Guy Oranim said in a statement.
Lisa Lee, Fuhu senior vice president of marketing and communications, said the television show was just one medium the company is looking at to push its brands.
“Look at Angry Birds,” Lee said. “The game became so popular they’re doing a huge array of licensed goods. We’re partnering with people who really own screens whether that’s TV, mobile or even games.”
The company has also worked with DreamWorks Animation to create the DreamTab tablet. That product, featuring characters from DreamWorks films in the tablet, will be released this spring. Fuhu has also partnered with Nickelodeon and Disney.
Fuhu reported revenue of nearly $118 million in 2012, a 96,000 percent increase from 2010. That rapid rise made it the fastest growing private company in Los Angeles County last year.
