Maker Studios is bringing “a galaxy far, far away” closer to its young audience.
The Culver City digital media company is set to produce Star Wars-related online videos to help Walt Disney Co. promote the next film in the popular space series, according to Bloomberg.
Maker will reportedly tap its deep pool of online talent to introduce the film franchise to those unfamiliar with the Star Wars universe. Much of the network’s viewers belong to the coveted 18- to 34-year-old demographic, meaning most of Maker’s audience hadn’t been born when the first Star Wars film, “A New Hope,” debuted in 1977.
The news is part of Disney’s effort to maximize its $500 million-plus purchase of Maker in May. Maker is also said to be developing programming for other Disney properties such as Marvel and Pixar.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will hit theaters Dec. 18.
