Faraday Future announced on Monday that it plans to race its electric SUV, the FF 91, in the running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 25 to demonstrate its engineering progress in light of cash shortages.

The Gardena-based electric car manufacturer’s financial woes have led to construction stoppages at its Las Vegas factory and several lawsuits alleging the company failed to pay its bills. Faraday has also pushed back the consumer launch of its vehicle multiple times.

Faraday plans to launch a video series with the race showcasing test efforts made by the firm’s engineers. The company claims to be the first electric vehicle original equipment manufacturer to race to the top of Pikes Peak. The dirt and concrete road that leads to the summit climbs more than 4,700 feet from the starting line and twists around 156 turns.

“The hill climb on Pikes Peak serves as the ideal setting to further develop the electric propulsion system and supporting thermal systems of FF 91,” said Nick Sampson, senior vice president of research and development, in a statement.

The company aims to bring its FF 91 electric vehicle to market in 2018.
