European Regulators Approve Apple’s Beats Purchase

The European Commission has approved Apple’s acquisition of Beats Electronics after determining the deal met merger regulations.

European regulators said in a statement that Apple and Beats’ low combined market share did not raise competition concerns, and “even after the transaction, a large number of global competitors such as Bose, Sennheiser and Sony would remain.”

The announcement comes days after audio equipment manufacturer Bose filed a complaint against Beats, claiming patent infringement on its noise-canceling technology.

Apple still awaits U.S. regulatory approval for the $3 billion sale. The tech giant expects to close the deal in the fourth quarter.
