Santa Monica’s Demand Media Inc. announced Tuesday the expansion of its Content Solutions service to include graphic design and original photography services.
Julie Campistron, executive vice president of studio and partner content, said the expansion comes in response from client businesses and brands that were seeking more visuals in their content. Content Solutions had previously offered clients the opportunity to tap into Demand’s network of staff and freelance writers and videographers for their ad campaigns.
The price range for the services varies depending on the scope of the project.
The expansion in the segment comes as Demand, which serves clients like RadioShack and Samsung, continues to focus on its service platform.
“There’s been a lot of industry talk about content as a marketing tool,” Campistron said. “We felt like it was right for us to step in and make a big investment in this domain.”
Demand could use another revenue stream to channel to help with its recent decline. The company last week reported adjusted fourth quarter net income of $2.9 million (3 cents a share), down from $10.8 million (12 cents) in the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the Web content company fell 6 percent to $96.7 million.
Campistron said the company’s pivot towards the service started about six months ago after the company realized there was a market for content marketing. The company also had a large enough pool of content creators to leverage for the services.
“The bigger goal is for us to be known for Content Solutions in the years to come,” Campistron said. “It is one of our key strategic priorities. It’s definitely something we want to develop and invest in.”
