Another YouTube network has danced away with money from a traditional media outlet.

Multichannel network DanceOn announced Thursday that it has raised $4 million led by Santa Monica’s Plus Capital and cable’s AMC Networks. Contributors to the round include Machinima executives Allen and Aaron DeBevoise, Zefr co-founder Rich Raddon and Santa Monica accelerator Launchpad LA.

DanceOn has also added television producer Nigel Lythgoe – who has worked on reality competitions “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance” – to its board.

“Bringing investors into the fold who recognize DanceOn’s global potential enables us to continue innovating as the best platform for dance and music entertainment,” DanceOn Chief Executive Amanda Taylor said in a statement.

Taylor started DanceOn in 2010 in New York as a YouTube network focused on dance. The network’s original show was competition series “Dance Showdown.” It has since expanded to other programming, including a series called “The Edge” that profiles music artists and their dancers.

Taylor moved the company to Los Angeles in 2011 to be part of the city’s growing ecosystem of digital media companies and YouTube networks. DanceOn was part of Launchpad’s spring class of startups.
