Chatbot developer Convrg is merging with Haptik Inc., a New York and Mumbai-based artificial intelligence company.
Both firms develop and operate AI chat assistants that handle customer service.
Convrg said it has worked to develop chatbots for movie studios, retailers like Sephora and Aveda, as well as website Reddit and The Grammys. The company was founded in 2017.
In a statement, co-founder Audrey Wu said the merger with Haptik would “combine the powerful knowledge we’ve acquired through years of developing customized conversational AI solutions for customers with sophisticated technology that’s been optimized through billions of conversations.”
The deal gives Haptik a new foothold in Los Angeles with the addition of Convrg’s offices and staff.
“Between the Haptik India team and our team in the U.S., we’ve helped more brands connect with consumers via messaging, web-chat and voice than most other AI companies in the world,” Timothy Carey, general manager of Haptik’s North American operations, said.
Indian telecommunications company Reliance Jio Group acquired a majority stake in Haptik this April in a $100 million deal that provided the resources for the Convrg transition, Carey said.
