CollegeHumor to Shop for Buyer

Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp is reported to be shopping comedy website CollegeHumor for about $100 million.

Representatives of IAC and CollegeHumor could not be reached for comment on the report, which appeared on Forbes.com.

IAC reportedly paid $20 million in August 2006 to acquire a majority stake in the comedy website, which produces original videos, animations and Web series that appeal to a college-age demographic. It also pays out small fees to users who submit articles or videos that are featured on the site. CollegeHumor, which relocated production to West Hollywood at the beginning of this year, has more than 8 million subscribers and 3 billion views on its YouTube channel.

Jokes aside, online videos are becoming pretty lucrative deals, and CollegeHumor isn’t the first comedy website that might be shopping for a buyer. Will Ferrell’s West Hollywood-based Funny or Die was reported to have hired investment bank Moelis & Co. to explore options such as an acquisition. Satire site the Onion was also said to be considering a sale.
