Bose Sues Apple’s Beats Over Patent Infringement

Bose has filed a lawsuit against Beats Electronics, claiming 36 patent infringements related to noise canceling technology.

The complaint, filed Friday with the U.S. International Trade Commission, seeks to ban the sale and import of certain Beats products, such as the Beats Studio and Beats Studio Wireless headphones, which Bose claims use the technology in question.

Bose, of Framingham, Mass., said it did not comment on ongoing litigation but offered the following statement:

“For over 30 years, Bose has made significant investments in the research, development, engineering and design of the proprietary technologies found in our headphones … We are committed to protecting our investment, protecting our customers, and defending the patents we own.”

Officials at Culver City’s Beats could not be reached for comment Friday morning.

The suit comes weeks after Apple Inc. closed on its $3 billion purchase of Beats, founded by rapper Dr. Dre and music impresario Jimmy Iovine.
