Less than a year after Boingo Wireless acquired Cloud Nine to bring advertising to its free Wi-Fi services, the company has named a president with ad tech experience.
Boingo announced Monday that it has appointed Nick Hulse as president, replacing Chief Executive Dave Hagan in the role. Hulse will be responsible for maximizing revenue through the sales, marketing, product and business development teams at the Westwood Wi-Fi provider.
“He has a history of successfully helping companies scale their revenues and maximize growth opportunities,” Hagan said in a statement. “Since we’ve expanded our monetization platform considerably over the last year, we believe it’s time to bring in a dedicated executive who can drive growth and manage the execution against those opportunities,”
Hulse was previously chief revenue officer at West L.A. ad tech firm Rubicon Project. He has also served as an executive at San Francisco companies iPass and Tumbleweed as well as Microsoft Corp. in Redmond, Wash.
Donna Jaegers, an analyst with D.A. Davidson & Co. in Denver, speculated that Hulse’s appointment is meant to add advertising and management depth to Boingo’s executive team in the context of its Cloud Nine acquisition and a recent Wi-Fi deal with AT&T wireless.
Boingo’s stock on Monday closed up 1 cent, or less than 1 percent, to $6.24.
