Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer announced today that his office has filed a civil lawsuit against a man who allegedly peddled over $280,000 in pirated movies, videogames and music in downtown L.A.’s fashion district.

The 29-year-old salesman, Leopoldo Lara, allegedly sold the files on memory cards, in addition to compact discs. Memory cards can store more than 800 songs and are more difficult for law enforcement to spot than discs, Feuer’s office said.

The lawsuit seeks an order to prevent Lara from entering the entire Fashion District as well as injunctive terms designed to prohibit future counterfeit sales. It is believed to be the first civil enforcement action for memory card piracy by a prosecutor in the United States, Feuer’s office said.
