Months after a public uproar for releasing a racially insensitive Bob Marley filter, Snapchat is facing another controversy, this time over a filter that people say promotes racist stereotypes of Asians, reports USA Today. The filter that turned selfies into “yellowface” Asian caricatures was “anime-inspired,” according to Snapchat.

Flipagram Announces Partnership with SoundHound

Flipagram launched an in-app integration with SoundHound, a voice and sound recognition and search technology, reports Digital Trends. Via the integration, users can create music videos from any song search and then share them to any social media channel.

Samsung Electronics to Buy Dacor for an Estimated $150 Million

Samsung Electronics America Inc. said today that it would acquire City of Industry-based Dacor Inc., a manufacturer of luxury kitchen appliances, for an undisclosed amount, reports the L.A. Business Journal. The deal was reportedly worth $150 million. The company will keep its headquarters in the City of Industry, might expand its existing facilities, and hire more employees.

Loot Crate Hires CTO

Fan gear subscription service LootCrate has hired John Williams as its chief technology officer, according to a press release. Williams was previously senior vice president of technology at TrueCar.
