Activision Blizzard Inc.’s non-adjusted revenue grew by 29 percent in the quarter ended March 31 to $908 million.
That beat consensus Wall Street estimates of $814 million.
Activision’s net income for the first quarter was $173 million (23 cents a share), compared to $116 million (16 cents a share) in the first quarter of last year – an increase of 49 percent.
Revenue growth was particularly driven by video games “Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft” and Call of Duty, the Santa Monica company reported. “Hearthstone” revenue grew 20 percent, but Call of Duty’s revenue growth was undisclosed.
Due to the acquisition of mobile game developer King Digital Entertainment in February, monthly active users of Activision’s video games grew to 544 million. Those users played and watched about 42 billion hours of video games over the past 12 months, the company said.
Activision’s stock closed at $34.91 on Thursday though it rose 1.84 percent in after-hours trading following the earnings report.
