The Resnick are California’s wealthiest farming family, owning over 185,000 acres of farmland across the state and a stake in the Kern Water Bank, a nearly 20,000-acre reservoir of water surplus in the San Joaquin Valley. Stewart Resnick went to UCLA for both his undergraduate studies and to obtain his law degree, while Lynda Resnick dropped out of UC Berkeley at age 19 before completing her degree to launch an advertising agency, Lynda Limited. A lack of formal collegiate education didn’t stop her from becoming a business magnate. Together with Stewart she now manages The Wonderful Co. as vice chair and co-owner. The Wonderful Co. reported more than $6 billion in annual revenue this year and owns various household brands including FIJI Water, Justin Wines, POM Wonderful and Wonderful Pistachios. To date, the couple has donated $2.5 billion of personal and company money to local nonprofits and schools, with a focus on sustainability and clean-energy research. The Resnicks have also been involved in LACMA with the Lynda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition Pavilion named after the couple. The pavilion opened in 2010. The couple donated $45 million to Phase II of the museum’s transformation campaign.
