THE MONEY: Guerin inherited most of her wealth from her late father, Nathan Shapell, after he left her a 43% stake in his homebuilding company, Shapell Industries. The company was founded in 1955 by Shapell along with his brother, David, and brother-in-law, Max Webb. Shapell passed away in 2007. Following his death, Shapell Industries was purchased for $1.6 billion in 2013 by Pennsylvania-based homebuilding company Toll Brothers.
THE BUZZ: Guerin is deeply involved with the Cedars-Sinai Health System. Last year, her Shapell Guerin Family Foundation donated $100 million to establish a children’s health care center at Cedars-Sinai’s main campus. She previously served as chair of the Cedars-Sinai Health System board and was president of its Women’s Guild. A few years ago, Guerin and her husband, Paul Guerin, accepted a National Leadership Award from the United States Holocaust Museum. In 2013, the Guerin Family Pavilion opened at the Skirball Cultural Center.
