THE MONEY: Spiegel is chief executive of Snapchat developer Snap Inc., a company he co-founded in 2011, when he was just 21 years old. He became one of the youngest billionaires ever in 2017, when Snap made its debut as a publicly traded company. He and co-founder Bobby Murphy control nearly all voting shares in Snap, and Spiegel owns or controls nearly 40 million shares of common stock in the company to boot. Spiegel’s net worth has steadied some after falling by more than half from 2021 to last year.



THE BUZZ: Snapchat recently introduced a generative artificial intelligence chatbot called My AI, which rolled out globally in April. In May of last year, Spiegel and his wife, Miranda Kerr, paid off all student loans for the graduating class of the Otis College of Art and Design, which the school said was the largest donation in its history. Spiegel attended the college. Spiegel spent $120 million last August on a parcel of land in the Holmby Hills neighborhood, which is next door to a $25 million property he owns.
