THE MONEY: Stewart and Lynda Resnick own 100% of Wonderful Co., an agricultural powerhouse based in Los Angeles. Its interests span citrus, almond and pistachio farms and processing facilities across more than 120,000 acres in the San Joaquin Valley. The company’s annual revenue is estimated at $5 billion. The Resnicks own underlying agriculture assets, and not just the consumer-facing brand. Farmland is soaring in value, though water- and resource-management issues are part of the equation. The Resnicks hold a 57% stake in the Kern Water Bank in the San Joaquin Valley — a huge underground reservoir — that could be worth $1 billion. The company is known for consumables POM Wonderful, Wonderful Seedless Lemons, and Wonderful Halos. Among other businesses: online flower delivery giant Teleflora, shipping company Neptune Pacific Direct Line, Justin Vineyards & Winery, Landmark Wines, and bottled-water company Fiji Water.

THE BUZZ: In May, the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena broke ground on a 79,500-square-foot building for the Resnick Sustainability Center. It will conduct environmental sustainability research. This follows through on a $750 million pledge for Caltech made by the Resnicks in 2019. Stewart Resnick is a Caltech trustee.
