THE MONEY: Nathan Shapell, Guerin’s late father, left her a 43% stake in homebuilding company Shapell Industries. The company was founded in 1955 by Shapell along with his brother, David Shapell, and brother-in-law, Max Webb. It went on to be purchased by Pennsylvania-based homebuilding company Toll Brothers for $1.6 billion in 2013. Nathan Shapell passed away in 2007, leaving his wealth to his daughter. Guerin also owns commercial real estate properties around the state.
THE BUZZ: Guerin is deeply involved with the Cedars-Sinai Health System, donating millions of dollars to the hospital, including earlier this year, when her Shapell Guerin Family Foundation donated $100 million to establish a children’s health care center. She previously served as chairwoman of the Cedars-Sinai Health System board and president of its Women’s Guild. A few years ago, Guerin and her husband, Paul Guerin, accepted a National Leadership Award from the United States Holocaust Museum. Her parents received a posthumous tribute from the museum. In 2013, the Guerin Family Pavilion opened at the Skirball Cultural Center. Guerin has also produced theatrical versions of “Leap of Faith” and “Amadeus.”
