THE MONEY: Karsh is the co-chairman and chief investment officer of Oaktree Capital Group, which he co-founded and still retains a stake in after 62% of the firm’s business was acquired in 2019 by Brookfield Asset Management. Karsh has also delved into sports through his minority ownership in the Los Angeles Football Club and Golden State Warriors. In September, Karsh relisted his three-acre Beverly Hills estate for $50 million, $10 million less than his earlier list price, after trying to sell it for more than a year. The estate was initially secured for $12 million by Karsh and his wife, Martha, back in 2000.

THE BUZZ: Oaktree, which registered $164 billion in assets under management as of March, recently announced the completion of its acquisition of a majority interest in London-based 17Capital. The acquisition bolsters Oaktree’s suite of private-capital solutions. In addition to growing his firm’s reach, Karsh engages in philanthropy alongside his wife, Martha. The couple founded the Karsh Family Foundation in 1998, which has donated or pledged around $300 million. Last year, $50 million was donated to the University of Virginia for the Karsh Institute of Democracy. The center is slated to open in 2026.
