THE MONEY: The Egyptian-born Saban formed Saban Entertainment in 1988, a brand that would become iconic in 1993 with the launch of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” franchise. In 1996, he merged his company with Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Kids Network, creating a fully integrated entertainment company that was sold to the Walt Disney Co. in 2001 for more than $5 billion. Saban was part of a group of investors to sell Univision Communications Inc. in 2020 for an undisclosed amount – he reportedly took home less than $50 million after taxes. In recent years, Saban’s apparent focus has been on Saban Music Group, an independent music company that’s set its sights on Latin America, Israel and other foreign markets.
THE BUZZ: For decades, Saban has been a reliable supporter of Democratic Party candidates on local and national levels. Saban and his wife, Cheryl, reportedly hosted President Joe Biden at a fundraiser in June – which would mark Biden’s first Los Angeles fundraiser since assuming executive office. Saban often supports the American Israel Public Affairs Committee – or AIPAC.
