THE MONEY: Pritzker is one of 11 heirs to the Chicago-based Pritzker family fortune, which includes the Hyatt hotel chain. He oversees the Pritzker Group’s private-equity firm, which makes direct investments in middle-market businesses across the manufactured products, services and health care sectors on behalf of certain members of the Pritzker family. Pritzker co-founded the family’s venture capital firm, which invests in tech-focused consumer and enterprise startups outside of traditional tech hubs. Appreciation of his 2007 inheritance and his holdings in Pritzker Group increased his wealth this year.
THE BUZZ: Pritzker completed his tenure in 2019 as chair of the UCLA Centennial Campaign, which raised $5.49 billion for the university. Pritzker and his wife, Jeanne, donated $30 million to UCLA in 2020 to renovate the school’s Psychology Tower, which was renamed Pritzker Hall. He is also co-founder of the nonprofit Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation. Over the past 10 years the foundation has donated more than $100 million in Los Angeles County alone. Pritzker also is a board member of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation, the Hammer Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Foster Care Counts.
