Heir apparent to his 92-year-old father, Lachlan Murdoch has helped navigate his two traditional media giants deftly through the digital age so far. The 51-year-old Murdoch experienced a setback when shareholders of publisher News Corp. and TV, newspaper and book conglomerate Fox Corp. gave an informal thumbs-down to a merger proposal in January, so the companies remain separate. Fox News was dogged by a libel lawsuit from a voting machine company and the contentious ouster of talk show host Tucker Carlson. Fox bolsters its legacy TV channel and program businesses with Tubi, which is a leader of the burgeoning ad-supported video streaming sector. The Fox movie studio was sold in 2019.
