Best known to TV audiences for starring in the 1990s sit-com “The Nanny,” Drescher leads the 160,000-member actors union negotiating a movie/TV program labor contract with a June 30 deadline. Drescher was elected in 2021 as more moderate and pragmatic than her opposition and is from the same party group as her predecessor. Drescher is a longtime advocate on health issues. Hot-button SAG AFTRA matters are organizing the mostly nonunion emerging digital media sector, including its influencers, compensation rates as digital media prospers, protecting performers’ rights amid digital doubles/deepfakes and talent safety at work.
