Robbins plans to double in a few years his major studio’s annual theatrical release count, currently at a low eight movies a year, he told an investor conference in September. In the video streaming age, Robbins finds cinema premiere “still has the greatest impact.” The decision to hold back for theatrical release last year’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” which sat on the shelf finished during the pandemic, yielded a $1.5 billion global box-office bonanza. Robbins co-starred in the 1980s sitcom “Head of the Class,” later segueing to producing and an executive career, taking the helm of the studio in September 2021.
