Spear co-founded Figs with Heather Hasson in 2013. The brand sells 98% of its products through its website and mobile app. Figs scrubs for medical workers are made with a proprietary fabric called FIONx that promises four-way stretch, anti-odor, anti-wrinkle and moisture-wicking properties, along with zippered pockets to store stethoscopes and the like. Figs has more than 300 employees and outsources its garment manufacturing operations to factories in Southeast Asia, China and South America. The company’s revenue last year added up to $506 million, a 20% increase compared to 2021. Prior to co-founding Figs, Spear served as an associate at the Blackstone Group Inc. in the firm’s hedge fund group.
